I may drive a complex BMW, but I have to return to my humble, GM push-rod loving roots from time to time.

It's an engine that's gone into everything from a humble B-Body Caprice to the workhorse Silverado to america's sports car Corvette to the ultimate American lux-truck Escalade. It's evolved from nothing more than 8 honkin' cylinders with a carburetor to a sophisticated work of tech that has cylinder deactivation, direct injection, and an all-aluminum construction. It is GM's do-it-all motor that has definitely earned its keep and spawned a few other motors in the process. Who needs fancy turbos and overhead cams when you could have an honest to goodness SBC?

All hail the SBC. The engine that will remain faithful after all others have given up.

Just out of curiosity, have they ever made a four cylinder out of half a SBC?

I don't think they have ever. Apparently some old OHV GM 4-cylinders could have SBC heads put on them though.

as much as I love to rag on GM for 1/2 assing a lot of shit, and making terrible cars up until recently.

I have to admit. the SBC/LS motors are some of the engineering greatest hits of all time. That, and the 3800 for lasting like cockraochs.

And, implicit in your note, is that the SBC is simple, reliable and - given its popularity - benefits from abundant parts and supports.
